Showing Up: An Ode to Black Mutual Aid, Parties and Pleasure

  • First Church of the Brethren 425 South Central Park Boulevard Chicago, IL, 60624 United States (map)

Our opening 2024 program celebrates how Chicago’s Black social communities “show up” for each other through parties, gatherings, and mutual aid social networks, and recognizes the significance that Black social dance, culture, and pleasure play in community building, maintenance, and development. Black social clubs from the 80s and 90s including First Fridays, 601 Productions, and PG Productions will be featured as well as Party Noire and the pop up project Dirty Laundry.

Archiving stations will be available throughout the event and we invite the community to bring in their social-life artifacts to be scanned and photographed. We welcome any material memories, including older pictures, fliers, fashion, and other ephemera significant to Chicago’s storied Black social culture history.

REGISTER HERE. You can also sign up for archiving appointments.
